Pour into Yourself More

Have you ever heard the saying “you can’t pour from an empty cup”? This saying means that as humans, we must first take care of ourselves to effectively take care of others. This act doesn’t mean you’re selfish, this allows us to maintain a healthy balance in between our daily interactions with other people. Although it sounds like a normal thing to do, it can be more difficult to apply this in real life.

I have created a list of different ways that you can pour into yourself more.

  1. Rest

I am not talking about making sure you go to bed every night, something you are supposed to do. I am talking about the art of not having anything to do! As of recently, I have tapped into this energy and I’ve been enjoying it. I used to thrive off of being productive and always having something to do but now I realize that is not necessary.

  2. Say No

Stop signing up to do everything when you know you don’t have the energy. Stop agreeing to go to things that aren’t in your interest. Stop adding on new tasks to your plate to make your boss happy. I know I’m speaking to somebody reading this! Saying no will create a healthy boundary and as we know from my “Recognize your Boundaries” blog this is a form of self-love and you will thank yourself later for it.

  3. Grace

Giving yourself grace is really just improving your inner thoughts about yourself. You have to recognize that you are doing your best even when it feels like you could do better. Constantly overcritizing yourself about any past mistakes you may have made will only drain you. Try not to beat yourself up about it. Whenever you are feeling down just think about how far you have come and give yourself a pat on the back.

How do you pour into yourself? Will you add any of these to the list?

Let me know in the comments (:
