Dating 101
It feels so good to be back! Did you miss me? I missed me –I mean you, too (:
A few months ago, I asked my followers about topics they would like to see talked on the blog and dating was one of them. Ask, and you shall receive!
The proper definition of the word dating is “a stage of romantic relationships where two people meet socially to determine each other's suitability as a prospective partner in a future relationships.”
We may have our own definitions of dating based on our experiences or what we have been taught at home.
To think about it more figuratively, I have broken it down into two different perspectives.
First, there is dating. Then there is dating someone exclusively. These actions, in my opinion, are two different things.
Dating means you are going on dates to actively get to know people. You may be dating several people at once.
Dating someone exclusively means you are seeing one a particular person on a regular basis.
This is the stage where the two of you have decided that neither of you will be seeing anyone else.
Understanding those terms will definitely help you in the long run.
When it comes to dating, the first step is knowing what you want.
It is very easy to go out with a person, but without establishing what you want, it is pointless. Once you understand your wants, you will not tolerate anything less than that.
This is also how you create a standard for yourself.
Take the time to actually get to know a person better before hanging out with them.
This should not only be done during texting, but phone calls too. I appreciate phone calls more, because you can communicate faster and more in detail. Text messages can easily get misread, especially while communicating with a person that you don’t know. Phone calls are very important when getting to know someone. It will make a difference when you get to spend time together.
When the time comes for the first date, do not be afraid to ask questions.
This will be helpful in determining compatibility. Discuss what you both value, your work/life balance, and future goals.
Making connections is key during this time as you may have similar life experiences.
The most important thing is to have fun! (Remember to be safe, of course!)
This doesn’t have to be a serious occasion. It is one date that may lead to a second one or it may not.
Try to be open-minded during this process.
The end goal is to get to know each other better and enjoy the experience.
